Lavandin

Hybrid lavender essential oil with more camphor and vigour than true lavender. Robust, herbal, and slightly sharp: lavender without apology.

Essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the flowering tops of Lavandula × intermedia (lavandin), a naturally occurring hybrid of Lavandula angustifolia (true lavender) and Lavandula latifolia (spike lavender). Contains significantly higher camphor (≈7–8%) and 1,8-cineole content than true lavender, producing a more robust, slightly camphoraceous, and less delicate character. Cultivated primarily in Provence (France) and the highlands of Spain; more widely grown than true lavender due to substantially higher essential oil yield per hectare. Distinguished from lavender by its sharper, more herbaceous quality.
