Bergamot

Cold-pressed peel oil from the Calabrian bergamot orange. Fresh and green-citrus with floral lift, and more widely used in fine fragrance than any other single material.

Essential oil obtained by cold expression of the peel of Citrus bergamia Risso, a citrus fruit cultivated almost exclusively in the Reggio Calabria province of southern Italy. Composed predominantly of linalool (≈30%), linalyl acetate (≈25%), and limonene (≈15%), with characteristic furanocoumarins (bergapten) removed in bergapten-free (FCF) variants to allow safe skin application. Imparts a distinctive fresh, green-citrus character with floral and slightly spicy nuances. Central to the classical Eau de Cologne tradition and a component of more fine fragrances than any other material.
